3Com have a long history in the telephone system industry. 3Com was founded in 1979 by Robert Metcalfe and originally specialised in computer networks. The name 3Com was derived from its focus on computers, communication, and compatibility.

About the Company

Hewlett Packard purchased 3Com in 2009 and shortly after announced that they were going to discontinue the NBX systems in 2013.  3Com were providing business phone systems to companies that range from 5 to 5000 Users.

About the Phone Systems

All the phone systems provided and serviced by 3Com all incredibly easy to install and use. The phones also very enough to be able to meet the needs of just about any business. Select from a basic phone systems or opt for a system built with sophistication in mind, those that use the infrared capabilities of a Palm OS powered organiser. Users enjoy the built-in displays provided that provide easy access to an index of internal users, speed dial features, and call logs. The 3Com phones are available with either a switch port or built-in hub, making it possible for a computer to share the same cable run as the phone. There are also choices for Ethernet connectivity, either 10/100 switched or 10 Mbps shared.

In conclusion, if you already have a 3com phone system then you can still expand and maintain it and find suppliers however if your after a new NBX then you should look elsewhere.
